Catherine Creek Classic

Perhaps you've noticed the obvious lack of "running" posts in this blog about homes, running and recipes!  I do have a half marathon coming up this weekend.  My husband Todd, several of my friends and family, and I will be running the Catherine Creek Classic on Saturday, August 4th.  I've struggled with my running since I moved to Reno.  At first I blamed the extra thousand feet of elevation I gained when I moved here but after a year I'm probably as acclimated as I'm going to get!

As I've ramped up my training for this half marathon a couple of things dawned on me:

1.  I've been focusing too much on my lack of speed and not patting myself on the back enough for my training consistency.  Shine or shine (hey...this is Reno...we don't get much rain!) I get out and do it.
2.  I love the treadmill.  For some reason I haven't been running on it!  I hopped on the other night and shaved over a minute per mile off my 5k time.  Silly!
3.  I have done almost ZERO cross training since I arrived in Nevada.  One of my best events was  the Catherine Creek Classic two years ago.  The same year I was on my bike every other day and doing bricks every other weekend.  Coincidence?  I think not!

So I'm going to stop stressing about my speed and start focusing on why I run:  Because I love it and the people who do it with me!

And if you're interested in learning more about this great half, hosted by some of the nicest people you will ever meet, check out their event web site:  http://eosportstraining.com/catherinecreekclassic.html

Or better yet! Come to Union, Oregon and see for yourself!
