You know you're slacking on your blog when your own darling mother calls and asks, "So what's up with the blog?"
I know...I know...nothing is up with the blog! Shame on me. A little motivation from Mom and here I go:
The Bacon Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie was a success! I made it on Thursday night in anticipation of my brother-in-law and his friend coming to visit. Personally, I could do without the bourbon but everyone else really enjoyed it. I posted the recipe previously but here are my tips now that I've made it. Use REAL maple syrup. I'm just assuming it would be less flavorful if you use table syrup-like product. I love the way pecan halves look when they float to the top of a pecan pie but have always felt them to be a bit of a pain to cut/eat. So I coarsely chopped half of the nuts to make it easier. Goodness knows I don't want anything to slow me and my pie eatin' down! I also chopped the bacon into small pieces before frying it to help with the crisping process and then made bacon bits out of them before I put it in the pie mixture. Lastly, I was too lazy to make a homemade crust so I bought the shortbread kind at the store. Good call. It was a delicious balance to the gooey pie.
As always - when you try this for yourself be sure to post a comment with results and reviews. I love to know how my recipes work for others!

HRR update
Home: I am wonderfully busy with real estate transactions. Three homes closed, two new ones under contract, three offers to be written. Not a bad way to spend March and April.
Run: I'm still slower than I'd like to be but I just shaved a minute and forty five seconds off my 5.8 mile run. I'll take it!
Recipes: We're having friends over for tacos tonight. I am so ready for some family/friend time! To make the celebration even more festive I'm going to give this a shot (or two if I follow the recipe!):
Ingredients:
6 slices bacon
1 1/2 cups pecans
2 shots bourbon
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 pie crust
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Fry the bacon, then chop into small pieces and set aside. Cook the pecans and maple syrup in remaining bacon grease for about three minutes, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat.
In a bowl, combine the eggs, sugar, corn syrup and bourbon. Stir in the pecan-maple syrup mix and bacon pieces. Pour mixture into pie crust. Bake until the crust is golden, about one hour.
Baseball:
The Atlanta Braves won last night. The Reno Aces are off to a great start. My husband will be working on opening day...but I think I can convince Deb and/or Travis & Regina to go with me!

Weekend? What weekend?!
My sweet husband came home from his work trip on Friday. One of our favorite things about Reno is the convenient access to the airport so that I can take him on travel days and pick him up on his return. This Friday I was busy writing offers and showing homes. He had to take a cab home and then run a half dozen errands for me that I had hoped to take care of before he got home. It was 8:30 pm before made it home with a takeout pizza rather than a delicious home cooked meal.
I was looking forward to a relaxing weekend with Todd and Coco. I had visions of hiking and trips to the Rancho San Rafael dog park. Instead, I was up and at 'em showing more property. Partway through my day my brakes made a super unhappy noise so I came home and swapped cars. When I got home later we made a quick trip to the auto parts store. While I was showing properties Todd was pulling our tax documents together. Good times. I got home and made some calls to clients who had questions about offers or properties. We went for a run, grabbed a quick dinner and I hit the hay so that I could be up in time to pull some paperwork together for showings today, Sunday.
So what should have been a quick couple of showings turned into a long and drawn out event because my smartphone wasn't smart enough to open the lockbox on the first property. I had to call Travis and Regina (a fantastic pair of Keller Williams agents who are also my dear, dear friends) to come let my clients and me into houses. On a bright note my phone was able to make the necessary update hours later in the comfort of my own home. Woulda been nice if it had just worked while I was standing on the front step with clients, but what good is complaining? The minute I walked back in the door my phone rang and I had another request for a showing. All the while I am also trying to help my husband with the taxes and doing enough laundry so that I don't have to wear pajamas to the office tomorrow.
It is now 10:38 pm and I have 8 Post-It notes with reminders of what I need to tackle tomorrow. Plus wrap up the taxes before my accountant (and friend of 27 years) has to call and chastise us. Tuesday is another full day BOLD. I will be lucky to get to spend 5 minutes with the husband.
To be clear: I am having a BLAST! I have a husband who supports me in every possible way with nothing but encouragement. I am doing a job I have dreamed about doing for years. I have clients and co-workers who make every day fun. And...if I can make it to 5:00 on Tuesday we're having some of the best friends on the planet over for tacos.
Life is good!

Work expands
I read a quote recently that "all work expands to fill the time allowed". How true that is! Even when I think I can't add one more thing to my day, if something important comes up I manage to squeeze it in. Because we are so often busy we put off getting a dog for years. Turns out, getting Coco has actually brought a measure of simplicity to my days. I might not make time for a run or walk for myself, but I make time for her. I might skip lunch several days per week, but I won't skip on Coco's bathroom/Frisbee breaks. When something is important you make time for it.
On that note...I still have to search for homes and schedule showings for tomorrow as well as pull together some paperwork for my awesome tax guy. I made time for walking the dog, now I need to tend to business.

Exhibition details
I wasn't able to make it to the exhibition game between the Reno Aces and UNR Wolfpack last night. The Aces won 11-6. I wish I could have been there. If good baseball and great weather weren't enough to make me happy, this story does! The Aces made a $15,000 donation to the Nevada Dugout Club. So get out and enjoy some Aceball this year! They're not just a great team to watch, they're just a great team!
