I didn't have this big lull in my blogging because I didn't have anything to write about. On the contrary, I had so many ideas piling up on me that I didn't know where to start. Even as I'm sitting here with the decision about what to discuss clearly in mind...I keep thinking of other things I've meant to discuss or share with you. I guess it is time to start putting them all on the Big List of Blog Ideas in order to clear my head a bit.
The thing I wanted to share with you today is a really cool running event I witnessed on a visit to Rancho San Rafael park with my dog back in mid-May. The front parking lot seemed a bit full, but it was a beautiful day so I didn't think much of it. The park itself was surprisingly empty. No worries...it just meant Coco had all the Frisbee space she needed with no distractions. We went for a short walk to cool down after Frisbee and wait! What's this?! Those are race bibs on those runners!! What is going on here?! How did I not know about this?!
Since my car accident I haven't been running much. Once every 4th day or so. 4 miles at most. When I saw bibs my mind snapped. I ran back to the 4Runner, shed all the Frisbee gear and then ran over to the start/finish area of the race. Sadly there were no dogs allowed in that part of the park and it was too hot to leave Cokes in the vehicle so I lingered around until someone in a bib came by that didn't look too exhausted to approach. I learned it was the Silver State 50/50 and it is the real deal. Check out their website. And if you are on Facebook, look 'em up. They are an ultra running group that hosts a variety of group runs in the Reno area. If you are interested in ultra distances these are the guys to connect with. And if you are up for a challenge, crazy, or both, plan to do their half-marathon, 50K or 50 mile run next year.
Is it strange that my running is at a six-year low and at the very first hint of a suggestion from my husband I said, "Yes, I'll do the 50K."? So yesterday I ran 6 miles around the marina. It wasn't pretty, but it is done, and I don't feel any worse for the wear. I'm hoping that getting on a more stringent running schedule I will force me to address the various aches and pains I am still experiencing from the accident. So far so good.
