Pizza Balls

No...no...no...  Pizza balls are NOT how you tell the boy pizzas from the girl pizzas.  They are tasty little crowd pleasers that my friend Regina found a recipe for earlier today.  I didn't have anything else planned for dinner and the recipe looked pretty darned simple.  I think this would be a great recipe for kids to make (with supervision, of course) because it is fun to assemble and can be customized to suit a child's palate.  We made ours according to the recipe but you could spice them up or make them milder for younger family members.

PIZZA BALLS

Ingredients:

2 cans Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (8 large biscuits per can)
96 pepperoni slices
1 pound of Colby cheese (or your preference)
1 beaten egg
Parmesan
Italian seasoning*
Garlic powder
1 jar pizza sauce**

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.  Cut the block of cheese into 32 squares.  Flatten a biscuit out and stack  2 pepperoni/cheese cube/2 pepperoni/cheese cube/2 pepperoni on top.  Gather up the edges of the biscuit and pinch together.  Place the biscuits, pinched edge down, on a greased baking sheet.  They will look like large dumplings.  Brush with the beaten egg.  Sprinkle with Parmesan, Italian seasoning and garlic powder.  Bake for 18-20 minutes.  Serve with the pizza sauce for dipping.

* If you don't have prepared Italian seasoning you can make your own by combining equal parts basil, marjoram, oregano, rosemary and thyme.

**  We made our preferred pizza sauce rather than using the store-bought variety.  The recipe was posted here recently.
